The Groundbreaking Launch of MTV

MTV is an American cable television channel. MTV was officially launched on 01 August 1981. Channel goes on the air for the first time ever, with the words spoken by one of MTV’s creator Jahn Lack.

And the dialogue was —“Ladies and Gentlemen, rock and roll.” The Buggles “Video killed the Radio Star” was the first music video to air on the new cable television channel, New Jersey was the only place where it initially available.

Channel went viral over the world on the top revolutionize the music industry and very soon become an influential source of pop culture and entertainment in the United States including Asia, Europe, New Zealand and Latin America.

Transforming Television with Diverse Programming

In starting days channel originally played music videos and related programming as guided by some of famous television personalities known as VIODE JOCKEYS or VJs. MTV is only the cable television channel from America available in other countries, eventually gained a massive cult following and becoming one of the major factors in cable television programming rise to name and fame. As the result American corporations dominating the television economy in the 1990s. Money was invested in making creative, cutting-edge videos, as the record industry recognized MTV’s value as a promotional video. Channel was instrumental in promoting the careers of performers such as Michael, Jackson, Price, Madonna and Duran Duran, whose videos played in multiple times which makes heavy rotation at that time.

For teenagers and young adults, by the late 1980s, Channel also started airing non-videos programming. Which also makes channel more popular among youngsters across the country. Channel’s popular reality series “The Real World” launched in year 1992 and was followed such a massive audience highly rated shows as The Osbournes, Newlyweds: Laguna Beach, Nick and Jessica, My Super Sweet 16 and The Hills. Channel also debuted in various parts like animated series including Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch, as topics ranging from voting rights to safe sex.

Competing Channels and Industry Reactions

After the launch of channel and the success footprint of MTV’s many other founders also started their television music cable channel but flops, like TBS founder Ted Turner started the television music cable channel in year 1984, designed to play a broader mix music videos than MTV’s rock format allowed. But in short time, just after a month as a money losing venture, Ted Turner sold it to channel. Channel then redeveloped the channel into VH1. Glenn Taylor and Karen Tyler founder of Financial News Network, tried to capitalize on the concept by launching Discovery Music Network, which was set to be a television cable network, and has plans to set up the Discovery Broadcasting System, which consists of the aforementioned network, along with computer and business networks, but it never got off the ground.

MTV’s Controversial Moments and Cultural Milestones

Channel also developed a reputation for pushing culture boundaries and taste too; Madonna’s video “Like a Prayer” in year 1989, is just famous example. Channel also launched the “MTV Video Awards” in year 1984, which were followed in 1992 by the MTV Movie Awards.”

Channel also apologized when a pilot for a show called “Dude”, this suck was cancelled after teens attending a taping at the “Snow Summit Ski Resort” in January 2001were sprayed with liquidized fecal matter by a group know as “The Shower Rangers.”  The teen later also sued.

MTV’s Enduring Legacy and Civic Engagement

Channel’s iconic logo, known for its distinctive “M” with a splatter of paint, become a symbol of pop culture throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Channel, which hosted a town hall forum for then-candidate Bill Clinton in 1992, also started a pro-democracy campaign called Choose or Lose to encourage over 20 million people to register to vote.
